About BARC & Contact Info

The Bronzeville Association for Recreation with Canines, or BARC for short, is a community organization created and made up of residents of Bronzeville.  We support the creation and maintenance of dog parks in Bronzeville and the South Side of Chicago.

If you are a dog owner in the neighborhood we would love to have you as part of the group.  The best way to get started is to join our email list and Facebook page by following the link here.

The Chicago Park District provides limited support for dog parks.  Their policy is for community groups to raise funds and maintain any dog parks that are created.  According to the Park District:

“Creating a DFA (Dog Friendly Area) in the Chicago Park District is a grass-roots operation; in effect you will become park developers. This is a long-term responsibility which will require community support and dedicated, ongoing commitment by all members of the DFA committee.”  (More Information)  BARC serves as that DFA committee for Bronzeville Dog Parks.

If you would like to contact the BARC Board of Directors directly, the best way to do so is by email to BronzevilleRecreationCanines@gmail.com or send a message through our Facebook page.

The Bronzeville Association for Recreation with Canines is setup as a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status and is in good standing with the City of Chicago, State of Illinois, and Federal Government (IRS).
